Learning styles through film: teachers and students in the school environment

This research focuses on detecting the learning styles that can be observed in films that are framed in the school environment. The main objective of this work is to determine if, from the cinematographic perspective, there is a tendency towards the generation of arguments from the learning styles of the students or if, on the contrary, it starts from the concerns and personality of the teacher. Likewise, this study inquires about the learning models and other educational aspects in the filmic representation. Methodologically, it is based on 2028 audio-visual documents more or less close to education to access, after a systematic screening, a sample of 23 films that are analysed from a qualitative point of view. The results show that, from the film productions, there is a preponderance of some styles over others, as well as successful practices associated with the teacher. It is discussed and concluded how the student’s learning styles are not the basis on which to build cinematographic arguments, but rather, there is a tendency towards a homogenization of students and a standardization of successful and unsuccessful practices around certain teachers and areas.
